I just bought a Blue Ray player with no Remote.?

It plays all blue ray commercials on the 3 Blue Rays I bought, but not the feature. Also, it plays all DVDs. Is it the television that's the problem? I have an old Toshiba HD television, and it doesn't have a blue ray icon on it.
