I think the sound card on my DVD drive isn't working properly?

When I try to play a movie on this computer the sound skips or something every so and so length of time. I think maybe I need to reinstall sound drivers. Computer is a win xp Lenovo pentium R4 3.20 ghz, 500 mb ram
