...computer doesn't register the? dvd drive. I want to remove the dvd drive and look for any physical damage then I wanted to know if it was possible to use my desktop to check the dvd drive from my laptop. Kinda wondering if there are any plugs are cables that would let me plug it up to my desktop to check it?

Most of the time the connectors are different, the easiest way to do it is check from the laptop, see if it shows up in the device manager as having a question mark next to it, if it does, try reinstalling the drivers, if that doesn't work, its probably bad
