I was watching Hystory channel and I'm pretty impressed about the 2012 series,...

I posted a question about this same theory. However, my question was how do people fall for the fear mongering? I have studied history for years achieved a B.A. in History, and am a current Graduate student. I have seen countless theories throughout time of when the world was to end. Fear, panic ensued. As it has to this day. EVERY theory and prophecy has been proven false. Every Millenium, century, and decade has had a prophecy. The world is not to end anytime soon. We will probably destroy our own world due to war, pollution and destruction before a cataclysmic event takes us out. I know those shows provide a great platform for fear mongering, disregard them. We will be alive after the Mayan Calendar Prophecy has been proven false. The source behind the prophecy has been proven as a fraud, and did not know what he was talking about. Respected scholars have disputed his findings, there was never a "set" day for the destruction of the world. However, the people do not listen to reason. To know we may "die" soon, gives people an urgency to live. It is ridiculous.

...(Nostradamus, 7 signs of Apocal? Apocalipse) and just stroke me that I should not plan my future anymore and not expect one, since I will not have one anyway. I will live by 51 years old and that's it.
I will spend the whole money that I still have (after the 2008 crisis) I will not study anymore, I will not buy a house in the east coast (since will be under the water anyway) or the west coast ( will be destroyed by earthquakes) , I will not eat healty anymore and I will concentrate in find a shelter somewhere close to a spring water in South America where I will stock lots of cans of sardine and other non perishable foods for the long, long winter ahead and pray everyday to survive this mess. If it is what they are trying to do with our minds, they got me.
The more worrysome thing is the alignment of the sun with the center of the galaxy, that will power everything off, I do not have to mention the natural disasters that is already happening and it is pretty scary.
Oh yeah, do not forget the meteors and comets that can hit us at anytime. Biological weapons, contaminaded water, lack of food.
Is what we have now the best time of our lives and we do not know?
Does anybody else watched and is feeling the same way? Why they are airing such an horrible show, to make us feel depressed?
I mean, More depressed, ?

The history channel has become much more profitable since they began non-stop airing of apocalyptic documentaries. They are very depressing, but people are addicted. It's like watching train wrecks.

Personally, I think their scholarship is atrocious. No Mayan scholar ever thought about the year 2012. It was in a book written in 1987 by an old hippie from San Francisco. He even said his calendar was "inspired" by the Mayan calendar. It is NOT AN OLD MAYAN PREDICTION that has been around for hundreds of years.

You should keep in mind that for much of the world, the possibility of mass death (by something), or early death was very real until relatively recently.

hahah.

On 1/1/2013, I'll come to you for all my sardine needs. :)

Nostradamus believers depend on extremely limited logic and wild interpretations of his words to "prove" he was really "seeing the future".

Try not to worry about it. The world won't end. Go ahead and buy that house. It'll help the economy!

Bah i dunno how people can believe in smthg like that ...
Didnt they say world will end in 2000 too ? but we're still here and we'll still be here after 2013 or w/e the date was.

You shud stop worryin about these useless imaginary stuff, and start focusin on reality ... like global warming, the way we live today we'll never be able to live the same in the future.
