My little sister is 10 and has a cell phone she got it on her 10th christmas which in my opion is redonkulus because i got my first cell phone when i was 15 and i definitely can see her grades falling because of that phone, she is always talking on it to her friends when she should be doing her homework.

giving a 12 year old a cell phone is a bad idea in the first place because first of all they dont need one. but if its absolutely necessary for them to have one, do not give them texting, because then they will be distracted during class and text their friends. also try giving them a prepaid cell plan before shelling out big money for the 2 year commitments, that way you can control the amount that they use their phone

No not really, just make sure that they are not using it in class because that's when they get caught off track. As long as they are not using it during class, I guarantee it will not distract them.

No. I got a cell phone when I was 10 and nothing happened because none of my friends had one so I couldn't text anyone.
