If I were to make a newsletter, what topic would people be most interested in?

I'm looking for a job as a newspaper reporter. However, I can't do this without starting off with the basics. So, what I am planning on doing is writing a few newsletters to show that I am capable of writing a newspaper article. What I'm really wondering is what topics people are interested in.
If you can help me out, that would be great.
