I'm a feature writer in our school paper, what topic do you think is interesting?

When I wrote for our school newspaper the most memorable piece I wrote was actually something that pushed the boundaries a bit. I ended up winning a national scholarship for it because even the teachers were impressed.

Don't be afraid to write something that might stir up conversation or debate. So many schools papers simply write about what's happening....and most students know all this already.

For example: I wrote about a fashion show that was being done at my Catholic beliefs school. There was an audtion to be in the show. So I presented an article questioning why a school would select "models" on their looks for this show when that goes against all the principals we'd been taught over the years.

It raised eyebrows. It validated the views of all those that weren't accepted into the show due to their looks/size. It didn't make me any friends that were IN the fashion show, but it was a good piece of writing that was interesting and caught people's attention.

Don't be afraid to do the same IF you're ready for a good challenge as a writer.
