Is a 2011 VW Jetta a good car or should I go for a Civic LX ?

I've heard either there really good or really bad, Jetta's at least in recent times. Looking to replace a 2007 Kia rio, which isn't a terrible car but theres better. The Jetta's a little better equipped for the price then a Civic lx but comparable. Dont want another Kia, Toyota's are boring, and domestics forget it.
