Is it legal to rip my collection of DVD's and then get rid of the originals?

I rightfully own each copy. Is it legal to rip the DVD's to my hard drive for my use only, to view at a later time, and either give away, or sell the original dvd's? I do not want to make copies and sell. This would be strictly for me. I just don't want hundreds of DVD's sitting around anymore.

No.

You can make copies I think, of legitimate discs YOU OWN for your own use etc.

Otherwise you'd just buy copy and sell everything released, or download it and say 'I used to own it'.

You need a legitimate purchase, legally, for any copyrighted material you use.
