J JohnM Member Jun 1, 2010 #3 whether return or supply, restricting the airflow on either side of an a/c can cause it to freeze up, which leads to a mountain of trouble.....leave at least 4 inches in front of the grille.

L Levi Member Jun 1, 2010 #4 The air conditioner needs proper air circulation, just like your furnace. I would not recommend it.
