Most manufacturer have gone away from making stand alone DVD player and are producing Blu Ray disc player. New model can connect to the internet, in which you can download movies and watch them at home. This is the new trend instead of buying the movie in blu ray disc. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on blu ray disc players. I purchased a Panasonic BD-10, which is the first generation of blu ray disc player and it is still running strong today (over 2 years). The Panasonic brand is the most reliable in the market today. If you read yahoo questions you will notice brand like Samsung, LG Sony having problems and none for Panasonic. When AVATAR came out on blu ray many consumers had problems playing the movie and I did not have any problems at all. Hope this will help you out.
Don't buy any more DVDs ... unless you're months away from getting a Blu-ray player. You can always watch your DVDs on the Blu-ray, but not vice-versa, as you know, and they look very very good on it.
