Is religion bad because it tells us Christ is returning ?

I read the other day , " why should we be concerned with global warming , Christ is returning " then it hit me , maybe that's a contributing factor in why economies world wide are failing ? Why should I go to school , why should I bother with paying my taxes , why should I bother with doing a whole host of other life responsibilities when Christ is going to return any ways . But the neglect and intentional disdain toward the natural world and our environment due to the return of Christ is the most egregious I've seen so far . Maybe that's why people are crapping all over the natural world . And if this is true is this bad to tell people and whole societies . And does this realization directly contribute to the rise in Atheism . Atheism up to 30% of Americans baby !! YEAH
 
The idea that Jesus is returning any day now tends to produce an effect of not really caring how ones actions will affect the rest of the planet.
