i have a home theater sound system in my room but no tv. I have 19in monitor for my laptop (got for free, reason for not having a TV). Is there a cord to connect it to the system?

The VGA connector is quite a bit different from most TV connectors, but you might be able to find a conversion gadget that will change, say, RGB output from your home theater system to VGA. It really depends on what's coming out of the home theater system. In any case, it wouldn't be just a cord, it would be a box and two cords, unless by chance your home theater system has an actual VGA socket somewhere.
