Not sure if I am doing something wrong or what? I just bought a new ps3 blue ray. From what I viewed on line ps3 was rated top for blue ray players as well as game players. No problem with games they are find. My question is with the blue ray movies. No matter what I do I get a bar at the top and bottom of the TV screen. If I leave the TV set at normal picture I have a small picture in a big TV screen..bars sides and top and bottom. I go to zoom screen on TV then I get just bars top/ bottom. I go to zoom full screen I get full TV screen but picture looks odd. Are these bars normal for blue ray? Tell you the truth I am not all that sure the picture is that much better than when I had my reg Sony DVD hooked up?? My Sony TV is HD but it is about 5 years old..would that make a difference? Not all that happy with it. Do I need a new TV? This one is not the 1080p I do not think. It sets itself on the ps3 as 1080i I think. Or do I just need to get someone to hook the damn thing up for me? Lost for answers. Hope some tv/dvd people out there that know a lot more than me may help???

Your TVs may not be compatible with the ps3 super sick quality, I use to have this problem except that on my TV the bars were grey and super huge, but I bought a HDMI cable for it and it helped alot but still had the top and bottom bars all big but I have a new TVs now and the ps3 quality and sound have never been better so I recomend to buy a new Tv..

Is your TV a fullscreen or widescreen model? If it's fullscreen, then that's why the bars, as fullscreen TVs are not designed for widescreen videos thus having bars on the top and bottom, so it produces a widescreen video effect. Otherwise it would be stretched vertically and look weird.

If it's a widescreen TV, make sure it's properly set to the widescreen format ratio, generally 16:9, widescreen, or theater depending on the TV.
