It would be ok now, but a mobile 8600 GT is not a great gaming card. There are even games out now that would make you lower the settings to play. I'd try to find at least a 9600 mobile GT

Yes it is for sure. 2.4ghz and 4gb ram. NICE. Dedicated memory as in graphics is good also. Better then shared.

Your laptop is very suitable for fast paced action games. You have a huge, powerful Intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz processor which is perfect for gaming and 4GB Ram which is great!!! The Nvidia 8600m GT with 512Mb dedicated memory should give you great graphics quality and performance on your 17" LCD screen. However some games may have issues with a 64-bit computer and because you are using a 64-bit computer you should increase your RAM to 8GB and think about increasing your graphics card's dedicated memory. Otherwise you have a great laptop for current and future fast paced action/first person shooter games.

I would say it's average. When you say FPS, what games do you play most?

Games like CoD4, the Source games (Portal, TF2, Left4Dead) would play ok on a 8600 GT

Crysis and Far Cry 2 is definitely a little out of league for that GPU.

I once saw an ASUS on Newegg with similar specs, but equipped with a better, faster 9600 GT.

Price was around $1300: a good bargain. But I've lost that bookmark.
 
yeah, thats a great laptop for that kind of game. My 8600GT had no problems whatsover in all games i install....
