Is this really the "Books and Authors" section of Y! Answers... or Twilight's Fan...
...Fiction Forum? Look, I get it. I've read the books... even enjoyed them. It isn't exactly profound literature in my opinion, but it makes for a decent read.
What I don't get is how one book series managed to turn a forum created for writers, aspiring writers, and avid readers into a fan page and sanctuary to the raging hormones of countless teenagers- most of whom are more obsessed with fictional young men who could and probably would want to kill them if they actually existed.
Non-existent young men who, by the way, were not the fictional sex symbols they've become until Hollywood's finest slapped a couple of handsome faces on them, sold them for obscene amounts of money with a "Based on the Best Selling Bladdy-Blah Blah by Yadda Yadda" pitch and called it the next big sensation in young, impressionable mind control.
Fandom itself is what it is, that's not my point. My point is that this forum, like MANY others, is overrun with random trivia and these asinine "Which Twilight hunk makes you want to suck... blood?" questions.
This used to be a decent forum... but now? Now, it's a wee bit culty. I'm seeing less and less actual, valid discussions/ Q&A here every day between the never-ending downpour of Twilight questions that could easily be resolved just about anywhere else.
There aren't nearly as many serious writers here posting as there were when I had my last Y! account, and that was less than two years ago! This section of Answers is going cult... it's even lost some of it's top contributors as a result.
I really do try to respect and support free expression, because that's what it's really all about... but that freedom shouldn't come at the expence of everyone else here who isn't in dire need to gush about Robert Pattinson's *sparkles*.
Wouldn't it make sense to create a specific section in Answers Entertainment for Twilight, since it's obviously in need of one? Or a "Recently popular/ Films adapted from books" section? That would be more than fair to everyone, make Q&A manageable again, and put an end to the Writer vs.Twighter wars.
I'd also like to make it very clear that I'm not blaming the books or the author for anything. I'm not even blaming the minds behind the film- which I also enjoyed, BTW. This is pure fan frenzy.
