Kittens wont eat mom not making enough milk?

last night one of my almost 6 week old kittens died because they wont eat and the mother is not making enough milk to keep them full. i found it dead when i got home now im woried the others are headed down the same road. the vet has told me to keep mom away to try to make them eat and if that does not work then i will have to force feed them. i am hoping someone out there has a better sugestion. please help.
