lg breeze security question?

Hello,
Hoping someone can help me. On the LG breeze there is security option that says "pin code required" and you can turn it on and off...but it doe nothing to the phone. Does anyone know what its for?
Can you lock your contacts on this phone with a password? Apparently you cannot even lock the screen with a password.
Please help
