Hey, so I'm in college with limited money so you guys know how that goes, it's tough to get proper nutrition, also keep in mind I am not taking anymore protein shakes because I get acne from it... So i was wondering, if I work out hard in the weight room and have good rest/recovery time, am I correct in thinking that I will still get bigger and stronger, but just at a slower rate than I would if I ate well with protein shakes?

If yes, could you put a number or something like twice as slow...

If you argue that it will be very hard to gain muscle mass without eating a lot or without protein shakes, will I atleast still get stronger from this? (I am more concerned about strength gains rather than getting bigger)

Also, I play serious basketball like 4 days a week, Am i also correct in thinking that this cardio along with consuming not too much calories (maybe like 2000 a day) will help me lose weight from ONLY body fat thus lowering my overall body fat % (MEANING i maintain all my muscles and strength)???

Extra info, 21/M/150 lbs/5'8" (I am more concerned about STRENGTH GAINS over mass gains)

Despite the massive marketing campaigns and gym legends, you don't actually need that much protein. Six ounces of skinless chicken will carry you for the day. You probably eat much more chicken than that in one meal, and you eat other things during the day that contain protein, so you are getting plenty of protein without spending money on shakes.

Research has also shown no clear difference in whether you eat right before or right after lifting, so you don't need to worry about that, either. But plenty of people in the gym will have strong opinions in both directions.

If you are still concerned, read my source and do a little google searching for protein content of foods.
