Magnavox DVD Recorder Disc Error?

I have a Magnavox DVD Recorder. I had some Maxell DVD-R discs with which I recorded on, and for a while they worked without a problem. Then I tried using some that had not been used, and a message popped up that said: "Disc Error--Please Eject the Disc". I've checked all the discs to make sure they are clean, and they are, but every time this message pops up. I bought some Memorex DVD+R discs to try, but they don't work either. I checked the manual of the DVD Recorder, and it says that both DVD+R discs and DVD-R discs will work (on DVD-R discs it says finalized video mode discs only). I previously had a different DVD Recorder, and I had the SAME ISSUE. What is the problem? What type of discs do I need to successfully record on this player?
