I'm a 5'7, 145pound female who's started training fulltime in MMA. I have done Muay Thai for almost a year now, but I've decided to kick it up a notch because I recently began BJJ+wrestling and would like to compete.
I train five days a week for 2 hours each day, but we don't seem to do much conditioning in class. We do a quick cardio warmup and obviously the kickboxing classes are more tiring than the grappling ones, but we don't do any straight out conditioning (more technique then sparring). I'm in decent shape (I play on 4 school teams) so what we do in class isn't making me any fitter, and everybody I train with clearly does trains outside of the dojo as well.
It's a little difficult for me to figure out what to do at this point because I go to school from 8:30am-3pm and training is from 4:30-6:30 from Mondays-Fridays, so I haven't got all that much time with schoolwork and all. Our dojo has its own weight/equipment centre so I can head there right after school and have 30minutes to work out before training, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea (e.g. should I work out after instead?), and if it is, how to go about that?
Could anybody suggest a good training routine for me to get into optimal shape? I'd like to especially work on my cardio/endurance and core strength. I'm up for anything, weightlifting, windsprints, skiproping... I just have no clue where to start, what to start with, and when to do it.
Thanks!
