I've been looking online, but there is too many choices. I want the longest lasting, loudest, most bass subwoofer I can for under $1000. The sub will be going in a entertainment room, we usually just listen to music in it. Please help.

I saw this one but I don't know how good it is: http://www.amazon.com/CVA-115X-15-Inch-Activeseries-Performance-Subwoofer/dp/B0018PWBYY/ref=sr_1_14?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1311025101&sr=1-14

Thanks

Look into 2 internet brands:

SVS Woofers
HSU Research

SVS was started by the "sub-humans" who spent a lot of time teaching people how to build their own subs. After lots of pressure from friends and family - they started selling subs. They have great subs with very flat response for music, some really really big subs that should only be purchased by people who listen to pipe-organ music, etc.

HSU research is another company that is well respected for it's subs. I saw Tom from SVS praise a HSU sub and said they worked hard to make a sub to rival one of the HSU models. (I bought SVS because I liked the honesty.)

You can also purchase a Dayton Audio kit from sites like www.partsexpress.com and save a good third compared to a commercial sub.

Good luck.

Look at the following brands: Definitive Technology, Energy, JBL, Infinity, Klipsch and Polk audio. I also recommend you demo them before you purchase one. Hope this will help you out.

The Cerwin Vega isn't really appropriate for home theatre. It simply does not go low enough. Depending on what kind of music you like it may also not go low enough for this. If you like a lot of classic rock and the bass guitar is the lowest instrument you expect to encounter then the 40 Hz cutoff on the CV sub might be ok. If you listen to Pipe Organ music then you need 16 Hz and the CV definitely will not do this...at all!

I agree with Grumpy Mac, look at HSU and SVS. Also look at the Parts Express kits and raw drivers. If you have the space to do infinite baffle then buy some of the Dayton Reference 15" drivers http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-468 and do that. This would be not only the most cost effective but would also provide by far the best performance for ultra low frequency. I personally use twenty four of these in my HT in open baffles and I can rock the place well down to about 13 Hz. If I used the same compliment of drivers in infinite baffle I could probably demolish the house. You could consider using two or maybe four of them in an IB system.
