Movie extra is major hollywood movie...auditioning extras locally.?

There is a major hollywood movie filming in a town near me. They are holding a call for extras for the movie. I am normal plain jane and thought it would be fun to go see if I could be an extra. Is an extra calling more for people who want to be actors or for someone like me? I have heard that some require headshots and an audition. Do you think this is how this one works too??
 
It all depends on the individual movie. Sometimes, if the budget is tight, they won't bother with auditions. Especially if the extras are just going to be walking down the street or standing in a big crowd. I would say go for it; you have nothing to lose!
