I went on a hike and half way through (8 miles total, moderate difficulty), just as my bf and i were turning back i started getting this pain in my chest on my left side that i automatically attributed to heartburn. i took a bunch of tums. hours later, i still thought it was heartburn and tried every trick in the book, eventually giving up and going to bed on my right side because sleeping on my left was too painful. when i woke up it wasn't as bad and began taking about 600-800 mg of ibuprofin a day.
two days later, i forgot that it even happened and began running on a treadmill. i had to stop because i again had intense pain in the same spot. my parents don't think it's anything to worry about, but here i am five days later and the pain is dull, but still there.
i don't smoke, never have. i'm 22. very healthy weight. extremely healthy diet. i have a history of heart issues on my dad's side, but i have a feeling this is not thattt serious and i just recently got a clean bill for my health (good cholesterol levels, good bp, etc.). i exercise regularly, but stepped it up recently but not by much.
i'm hoping it's just strained or bruised intercostal muscles and it feels like it could be, but i don't know. it mostly hurts at the peak of a breath, like when my lungs are the fullest, but only on the left. it's always there though, not just when i exercise and it's only dulled by ibuprofin. what should i do?? what could it be? sorry this is long... just a little concerned and frustrated, but the parents don't think it merits a visit to the doc. any help or thoughts is appreciated.
