my divx player keeps crashing when i try to play avi files. any ideas? ?

i have tried the divx all in one fix package, have the newest version and an older version but both crash when i open any avi file. its getting to me. any help is apreciated
please do not jst recomend a "better" player, yes i have seen vlc! and prolly 30 other video players. there are things about divx that i preffer over all other players and am not ready to switch
