been a reoccurring problem? I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. There are no finger indents to allow me to open it manually and i located the emergency fuel latch in the trunk, however it seems to just be hanging by a cord. Is this normal and what can i do if not? Normally when this happens i have someone hit the fuel latch while i press the button, but my roommate isn't around and i don't know when she'll be back. I don't have the money or gas to take it into the shop right now either. Sorry for this being so long, and thank you to anyone who has any insight!

gently pry it open with a screwdriver/butter knife,or hit the button at the gas station when the attendant is there (explain it to him,he's seen it many times before)

once you get it open. take a pair of pliars and bend the latch so it doesnt lock anymore i had the same problem and it costs nothing but 20 seconds of your time to eliminate it. then you can just open it from outside and not have to worry about getting stranded with no gas
