My ipod dock isn't working?

When I dock it it still charges but the music doesn't come out the speakers, I looked at the manual for the dock and I can't figure out what to do, it doesn't say anything. The first time I used it it worked. The only thing I could think of that I did wrong was the first week I
used it I forgot to put the insert in for the first two weeks I used it, would that break it, what can I do. It is a ih4b

If this is for the iHome product, you may want to press the iPod button if they have one to turn on iPod mode.
Charging it is one thing, getting the iHome to play songs on the speaker is another thing!
