My magnavox Dvd player works fine until i put a rented Dvd into it?

My magnavox Dvd player works fine until i put a rented Dvd into it, then the counter progresses, it doesnt show the previews or allow andy disc menu functions??? I cannot skip past previews or open disc menu. If taken out of the Dvd player, the disc plays fine in the computer??
