money? My parents have been "underemployed" for about 5+ years and do not seem to motivated to help themselves. They do not know how to manage their money. They seem to have run out of help at their church, my sister is sick of giving them money and my mom says she can't work because of anxiety issues. My dad is always one of the first to be let go if there are lay-offs. This has been a pattern my whole life. I have worked very hard, and so has my wife, for the things we have. My parents have helped me in the past. They are not asking for much but I'm afraid of opening up the flood gates and getting nickel-and-dimed.

If you decide to help them, then its okay once and awhile, but they will only do to you what you let them. If they start taking advantage of you then you will have to put your foot down and tell them no. Some family members of mine do the same to me, and I have had to put my foot down. Now they only come to me as a total last resort. If you do it, you'll just have to get used to saying no, ALOT!

Its hard to deal with family like that. They'll get mad at you, but so what don't let it get you down. You might have to tell them that they can't keep using their "situations" as excuses.
