my windows vista home computer keeps freeing. help!?

it will come on then freeze up just before it loads and goes to my log in screen or during its load. when i try to re-set it or boost it it still freezes. help me it usually stops on a black/blank screen. i can't get help from the internet because i don't have it and it never goes farther than logging me on to my account on the computer. i want to try to have it re-booted or something before sending it to a specialist.
