Newbie did not file US taxes for 2009. Apparently free e-file available till

oct15. need guidance on process.? Hi,

I've obviously never done this before but I haven't filed my taxes yet for 2009. I am eligible for a refund but I don't have to pay anything more. One of the reasons why i was late was because, I didn't have all the W-2s that I would need (moved places and didn't leave forwarding addresses). And now, apparently, free e-file is only available till oct 15. Can someone please just guide me on the process at this stage? Would I need to buy an e-file package, so to speak? any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You are late. There are no penalties for filing late if you don't owe money.

You cannot efile and must do it "old school". Just as well, you need to learn how. Doing efile without ever doing realfile is like using auto-land and never knowing how to really land.

So hit the web and go get the forms from www.irs.gov. You want 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040. Follow the forms through. Do the math. The 1040EZ form is cake. If you're doing weird stuff you'll need one of the bigger forms. No big deal. And you're cooler than your friends now.
