newbie laptop user asks: how do i surf web w/out wifi?

Okay, I know this is probably a really stupid question but bear with me, folks. I'm 61 and about to buy my first laptop. I have no clue about the darn thing so I'm asking you: how do I get onto the web in places where there is no wifi? Is there some other gadget I'm going to need or what? THANKS

Adding to previous answer, you can buy a 3G or 4G modem or check if your laptop has one built-in. But yes, there is going to be a fee for using it. You might want to check the price because they are usually pricy.

If you laptop comes equipped with WIMAX you should be able to connect just about anywhere, but you will pay a monthly fee. There are small network cards/usb plugins that you can buy which will also provide you with wireless internet, again for a monthly fee. If you are at your home you can use an Ethernet cable and plug your laptop directly into your router to gain access to the internet as well. If you need more information ask a person at the store you are buying from, they should be able to provide you with a pretty detailed explanation of how you can get internet without wifi.
