Ok my car ended up breaking teeth off of the timing belt last night on the way home from a 120 mile road trip... Its an 2003 Xterra with 143xxx miles on it.... So my husband and his father got the bright idea to pull it home about 30 miles with another truck and a chain well they were towing it going about 50mph for about 17miles and then we heard a grinding noise.... and finally i called a tow truck and brought it home because the tires wouldnt turn. Well now they took the drive shaft off and the car rolled so they said my transmission went out. So is it because they pulled it so fast? the car was in neuteral the whole time. Just trying to figure out why the transmission would go out.
 
When you pull a car you should pull the drive shaft to keep the transmission from turning.When the transmission turns without the engine running the pump is not lubricating the internals.
