Hey thanks Bil. If you hadn't posted this link I never would have know the leader of the Palestinian Arabs during the 30's and 40's, Grand Mufti, was such a big Nazi collaborator. Apparently, he recruited an entire SS division for Hitler. Fascinating...
The same that I thought before I read the article. Israel is a fascist state, and the only solution is a new state that recognises the rights of everyone who lives in the area.
If in 1947 a couple of million arabs had arrived in Wales and claimed it as their own, on the basis of some religious text, do you think that the British would have behaved any differently to Palestinians?
I've just explained to you that it's NOT what the Palestinians want.
EDIT Jesus, a few posts back you were insisting that Hamas "are the people". Now I've shown you a statement in which their spokesman emphatically says they support a 2 state solution and you now insist they shouldn't be doing that.
No, you are confusing what they want with what YOU think would be fair. What they WANT is for Israel to disappear from the Holy Land entirely... it's in the Hamas Charter.
That's a gross distortion of what actually happened. You really need to read up on some history. Start with the fact that the area which became known as the Palestinian Mandate, had been conquered and occupied by the Ottomans until they were effectively "liberated" by the Allies in WWI. The British tried to find a solution to the Arab/Jewish population problem by partitioning the area and making Jerusalem an international city. Israel's OTHER neighbours decided they didn't like having the partition and just wanted the Israelis out of there. In the ensuing fighting (from 1948 to the present day, more or less) the Arabs have lost more and more territory.
Maybe the Allies should have simply left the Ottoman Empire in charge, presumably Imperialism isn't as bad when Moslems are doing it.
It's odd that nobody in the Middle East sees it that way (apart from the Israelis). The simple fact is that the indigenous population was displaced in order to make room for foreign religious settlers to form their own apertheid religious state. That's wrong, however you look at it.
The Arabs are Muslims - they are 'people of the book'. Their religion borrows heavily from Judaism and they have adopted many of the holy sites of Judaism as holy sites of their own - and which they now object to the Jews reclaiming.
They might have driven most of the Jews out of Israel once, but they should have known that they would be back one day.
There were many Jews already living there, and many immigrating at the time: Given the hostility between the communities, I don't think there could have been a better solution than the Partition.
Regardless of what you think of that, the fact is that practically, they have to move forward because it's unlikely the Israelis are going to pack up and move any time soon. If the Palestinians will now settle for a 2 state solution, isn't it time for Hamas to make the next move? Hence my question about withdrawl from Gaza leading to a Hamas ceasefire, recognition of Israel etc.
the problem being that Israel is basicaly a Racist, Terrorist and Fascist State, the Israeli's still have to live with themselves on a daily basis which is why they have become expert at lying to themselves, maybe one day they will stop lying to themselves and face the reality of what they have become.
One of the saddest things about the Palestine Israeli conflict is that the Jews once persecuted by the Nazi's have gone on to become little better than fascists themselves
sankaku... moving on from the rhetoric... Gaza... withdrawl... answer the question, so at least I can understand if you want this problem to be solved.
