So do would you want to read a book that has a prologue &/or epilogues or do you just want the story to jump right in?
personally i don't consider "previews to the next book" as an epilogue...just a preview. Epilogue i feel either: says what happens to the characters after the story or leads into a sense of mystery like you find out that the whole story was a diary, an essay, or something.

On fantasy novels, I like prologues.
On any novel, I absolutely hate epilogues.. instead there's an upcoming book in the series.

I like prologues in books if something significant happens to the characters before the beginning of the story, i.e. an accident, etc. Otherwise, I'd rather just start the story.
I'm not a fan of epilogues, either. After the complication has been resolved, and the book is over, the epilogue just seems pointless to read, and I usually skip it.

I think the prologue brings the reader up to speed with the necessary back story that can be summed up but is not part of the story. If it is done right, the author is relating his feelings to you.

A story with a good hook is fine too.

I'd rather it have an epilogue.

Personally if it has a prologue I NEVER read it. It's just like why have something that tells you about a book when you don't know anything about it. I hate when they have like a little excerpt from the middle of the book. Its just like why read it when it is in the middle of the book when you never even started it yet?

As for the epilogue if it's a good book... I ALWAYS want to read as much as possible of it. So having an extra bit to it or a little of the sequel is very good.

Well, I guess that's my opinion on having a prologue, epilogue, or having neither in a book.

??

I dislike both prologues and epilogues and would much prefer a story to just simpy start.
