The five-passenger Cube uses a 122-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, with fuel economy claimed to be 30 mpg on the highway. Dependent on the model, there is a choice of six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Standard safety equipment includes seat-mounted side air bags, roof-mounted side curtain air bags, active head restraints, antilock brakes, and stability control.
Progressing through the range, the 1.8 S is priced at $14,690 with the six-speed manual and $15,690 with the CVT. It adds features such as body-colored outside mirrors, upgraded fabric, cruise control, and cargo area cover.
Marking a larger step up, the 1.8 SL has standard CVT, 16-inch aluminum wheels, automatic headlights, automatic climate control system, iPod interface, and six-speaker stereo for $16,790.
The flagship Scion-fighter is the $19,360 Krom model, which further dresses up the Cube with a chrome grille, specific front and rear fascias, side sills, rear roof spoiler, and 16-inch wheels. Inside, the Krom features Bluetooth connectivity, upgraded audio system, titanium and aluminum trim, and automatic climate control.
As with the competing Scion xB, many customization options will be available through local dealers.
Look for the Cube to go on sale in May 2009.
