Problem with my acer laptop, some DVD games work fine, but some don't at all.?

I tried them on my Dads Dell Desktop and it recognized all the discs. Should i replace the laptop drive?
Does it need to be the same brand as the faulty one?
 
Some games are 32bit, some 64bit. Also your graphics card might not be up to some games. Your Dads desktop is probably higher powered and faster with better graphics.
 
Replacing the drive would probably solve your problem but there are a few avenues you could try first.

Firstly are the DVD's it is not recognising ones that have been burned by you and onto cheap blanks?

Secondly you could try a lens cleaner.

Thirdly you could check that all drivers for that device are up to date.

If the problem is that it is not recognising cheap copies then your drive is on its way out and needs replacing.
