I haven't played Resident Evil 4 since '06 so I decided to pop it in and restart it before RE:5 comes out.
However, it wasn't reading my save file. I checked my memory card from the PS2's menu and the game's system data was there as well as my save file and Ada save file. I tried again but it still isn't reading my save file.
This isn't the only game it does this with though, Silent Hill 2 and 3 are the same (It seems to be all my survival horrors for some reason). But if I start a new file of these games, it saves properly and picks it up even if I remove the disk and restart the PS2.
Also, games like God of War, Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry are still picking up my old save files, even though I haven't played them since they first released.
I don't know if this would have anything to do with it, but I'm using an old 2001/2002 PS2 that my friend has, the one I played those games on was the last of the original models before the slim phased them out.
