PS3 used to play DVD-R's and DVD+RW, now it won't!?

Hey,
I burn DVDs using Sony Vegas and DVD Architect, and they used to work fine of the PS3, but recently (after a few months from not using the PS3) I burnt a new DVD+RW and the PS3 made a very, very loud noise and I thought I broke it. I took the disc out and tried 2 regular CD's and a regular DVD and they played fine. I tried some of my old DVD+R's and RW's that I know for sure I used to be able to play on the PS3 but now they make the same exact noise. I updated the system and my internet is connected, so does anyone know what happened?

Thanks so much,
Colby

Sounds like the reader is malfunctioning. Not sure how it would've happened, but it sounds like something has caused the reader inside the PS3 to stop reading burned discs. If you have another PS3 or have a friend who has one, see if it will work. If you're concerned it might break the other PS3, see if it's still under warranty to have it fixed or find a friend who knows how to work on them and see what they can do for you.
