Question about blocking the filter so the fish don't get their tails stuck again?

Okay, hi everyone. I have been asking a few questions in this catigory, unfortuantly.

But, we found out why our two fish died, the last one seems to be doing well.

Our Ballon Belly Mollies had gotten their tail fin stuck in the filter. When Footsteps died we asumed he was sick and just naturally died, and that Nibbles ate him a little bit [Cause according to some people Nibbles was a dead thing eatting creature] But later Amy found Goldy's tail stuck in the filter, which caused bleeding, we're now asumming the same thing happened to Footsteps. And we're also Asumming Nibbles felt bad from the blood in the water that one time she was acting a bit sick, but is doing well now.

So, sorry for talking a lot, just explaining the situation. We also brought some water to the pet store and it came out pretty good, with only a little to much of something, which was pretty good for how long it's been with fish in it and stuff.

And the pet store staff suggested a small net with a rubber band around the area they got sucked up at [The filter]

So, I was just wondering if that would be safe for the fish tank, and if it would most likely work? My sister is very upset about her loose of fish and doesn't want anymore to die like that again
