My girlfriend recently bought a 1997 VW Golf, but the person she purchased it from painted some of the panels red, incidentally over the little hieroglyphics depicting what the heat settings are! There are also a couple of twisty knobs at the top left under the vents that we can't figure out for the life of us... anyone with some guidance or pictures or a link to a decent picture we can see would be a great help...
