Red and green "daily use" non-hot bell peppers! Do the color on the pepper

differs taste? My question is basically about regularly used Red and Green Bell peppers...do the color on these makes 'em taste differently? I've used these for many dishes before and over the years I've noticed a slight difference in the taste even though these are the same cousins in a sense. What's your insight on this matter? I'll give the 10 points to anyone who can professionally pinpoint a taste difference, if any, on these two....Red and Green bell peppers!!

The difference in taste (yes, there IS one!) is sweetness ... the red pepper is considerably sweeter than the green pepper.

This is most noticeable when the peppers are eaten raw. Once cooked, the difference is not as marked.

The red bell peppers taste better, they are riper than the green ones, since the green and red ones are the same peppers just the red ones didn't get picked till they turned that color.

They taste completely different to me.

The red are sweeter and do not cause indigestion. The green have more of a bitter taste to me.

I cannot tolerate green peppers, but red peppers are one of my favorite foods.

Well there is going to be a taste difference between red and green bell peppers even though they are the same plant. The green version is not fully ripe and the red is fully matured/ripe.

Just like an under-ripe orange or apple is going to taste different from a fully ripe one.

Underripe veggies don't have a huge difference in taste than their mature counterparts, like fruit does - but there is a difference.

For me, I think the green is just a tad more sweet than the red. Although when sauted it is hard to tell the difference. I have often felt the red tastes a bit "waxy" to me - but not everyone feels that way.

I also think the red can overpower a dish if you use too many - but an equal amount of green would not affect the dish.

Red, yellow and orange peppers are all sweeter than green peppers and I prefer them. Green peppers are somewhat bitter but are more appropriate for some dishes.

yes there is a difference. red peppers are sweeter and green have a stronger slightly bitter taste. i don't like green but love the red. especially raw. but they are really good when you roast them too.
they are from the same plant but the green are not ripe and the red have been allowed to mature and ripen on the vine and that make them taste sweet .
