samsung galaxy s3 hdmi adapter- No sound?

Hi
I bought a samsung galaxy s3 hdmi adapter to stream videos to my TV, the picture comes up fine but no audio...i know the hdmi cable is working, so was wondering if anyone knew where i was going wrong.
The TV is a 6 year old Toshiba...
