I have a laptop running XP Home and a desktop running XP Pro, both connected to the internet via a wireless router. I also have a crossover cable that I can use.

I want to transfer large amounts of data between the two. Can someone provide me with detailed help on how to do so?

I tried creating a network both with the cable and using the router but I really don't have a clue. I've set both computers to the same workgroup and set sharing on and that's about as far as I got.
I tried using the wizards in XP but no luck.

Thanks in advance

Click on: Start | Control Panel | Network Connections. In the Network Connections window, on the left, there should be some options for you. If they are not there, you can turn them on by going to the menu bar at the top of the window and clicking on Tools | Folder Options... and on the General tab make sure "show common tasks" is selected and press OK.

There should be an option called "Set up a home or small office network" under the "Network Options" section. Run that wizard on each machine. At the end it will ask you if you need to create a disk for the other machine- choose no. They are both XP, so they both already have this wizard.

Then, once you've done that, you should go to "My Network Places" which is in the same area as the "Set up a home or small office network" option, just further down in the "Other Places" section.

From "My Network Places" there will be some good choices on the left, including "View Workgroup Computers", and a few other networking setup and management links. When I do this, it usually takes like 15 or 20 seconds for the window to show the other computer for the first time, so be patient.

With this info and links you should be able to take it from here. I hope this helps!
