...receiver? what are the pros and cons to both package types. and any other info you think is helpful.
 
The thing i don't like about home theater in a box is that when one item fails the whole system is done. You also do not have the capability to up grade the system down the road. A receiver is a much better choice when you want to add other equipment to it like a better blu ray disc player and an XBOX 360 or PS3. Look at an Onkyo HT-S model, it is a receiver and a speaker system set up. Then add a Panasonic blu ray disc player and you have a nice system. You can go to a Fry's Electronic retail store and demo the system with your own source of material (cd). Hope this will help you out.
