...stethescope like you can a humans? Someone asked me this question and I wasn't sure. This is hypothetical.
I was asking about while the mother is still pregnant with them.

Yes.

It is hard to pick out individual heartbeats while the pups are in utero, but if you place the stethoscope in the right place and listen carefully you will be able to hear the pups heartbeats. Often it is hard to hear them over the dam's own heartbeat, and it is impossible to tell correctly how many pups she has this way.
