Smartphone internet sharing through Wi-Fi?

I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro. I have a program in the phone that allows me to share the phone data connection with my laptop if I'm tethered with a USB cable. Is there a way I can share the internet connection through Wi-Fi, essentially making my phone a hotspot eliminating the need for the USB cable?
