If i have a stereo reviver that's 500 and 5 channels that's 100 watts per channel but if i get 2 speakers that are 125 watts each is that too much watts for my receiver or will it work? and if it does will it affect the sound quality??
No you should be fine. You never want the receiver to put out more power than your speakers can handle. If the numbers were reversed, you would blow the speakers if you turned up the volume past 3 or 4. But the wattage of both are close enough that you should be okay. You may have to turn the volume up slightly, but overall, you should be fine. HOWEVER, make sure the ohms output on the receiver is the same as the speakers. If the speakers are lower ( 4, 8 ohms) than the receiver output ( 16 ohms) then you may have a problem. Some receivers a switch that allows you to switch between 8 and 16 as most speakers are at least 8 ohms.
