I always hear these jokes about when some stupid person says something thats really dumb and the other person says they need a helmet but I've never really understood the meaning of the joke. Can someone explain the meaning to me?

P.s. Save the jokes about how i need to wear a helmet because I don't know the meaning of the joke.

either they need to wear a helmet so what little brain they have left doesn't fall out their head, or they are so stupid they're gonna fall or walk into something, thus needing to wear a helmet. also, maybe it could be that you fell off a bike without a helmet, giving you brain damage and making you stupid, so people say you need a helmet.
