Suzuki 550 Bike Carb/Choke Question?

The choke should be held closed by springs behind the plungers, you'll have to open it manually, it's a metal rod that is linked to all 4 carbs.

Are the chokes automatically closed or open. I'm not sure, the bike didn't come with a choke cable. Trying to problem solve so info is appreciated, Thanks!!
